Breaking the 2 TB Volume Limit with Windows 2012 and UEFI

If you have a server that supports UEFI, you can exceed the 2 TB single volume partition limit. You can create disk volumes up to 9.4 Zettabytes in size by using UEFI instead of MBR. In this example, we will create a single large partition on a Dell PowerEdge server.

First, press F10 during POST to create your large drive partition first using the RAID BIOS utility. Next, enable UEFI support in the BIOS. To do this, press F2 during POST to enter the BIOS and then change the BOOT MODE from BIOS to UEFI.

After UEFI is enabled, boot using the Windows 2012 installation DVD or image and you will be able to create and read volumes larger than 2 Terabytes in size.
