China recently introduced two artificial intelligence news bots, modeled after real-life Chinese news anchors, Zhang Zhao, an English-speaking journalist and Qui Hao, his Chinese speaking counterpart.
The news bots perform intonation, facial expressions and emotional effects, just like their human counterparts.
“He messes up less than I do” quipped Mr. Zhao about his AI, in a YouTube video about the event, which launched on China’s national journalist day (ooh, the irony).
“I’m an English-speaking AI news anchor” explained Mr. Zhang’s digital doppelganger during its first news cast. “I will work tirelessly to keep you informed, as news is being constantly typed into my system uninterrupted”.
