You may encounter extremely slow performance during a Quickbooks update on Windows server. The server gets stuck or moves at an extremely slow pace during the update option that displays:

Quickbooks Update Writing System Registry Values

To fix this issue, open Windows security settings. Double click on the virus and threat protection icon.

Scroll down to virus & threat protection settings and click on the manage settings link.

Disable cloud-delivered protection and tamper protection.

Once this is done, your update progress should speed along. If it doesn’t, disable real-time protection completely and make sure you do not have any other anti-virus programs running.

Once the Quickbooks update is installed, re-enable the anti-virus and restore the settings to their prior values.

This right here worked perfectly! Thank you. I had been struggling for over a week now.

Worked great. As soon as I disabled that third recommended setting (Real-Time Protection) the update finished within 3 seconds (previously had been working on updating for 2ish hours). Thanks for sharing!

It works, but I don’t like having to expose my clients’ information that way (especially when my office manager’s machine, with the same configuration, updated without issue).

Thank you for commenting. As mentioned in the article, revert the changes to the security settings after the update is finished.
